Polk Audio PSW505 Product Description
The PSW505 is well built sub with a 12 inch polymer composite cone with high excursion for good output levels. The subwoofer produces excellent sound quality, especially considering the low price and is able to be used in large rooms.
The PSW505 is also designed to work well with both music and home theater audio without loss of quality. The sub can handle the beat of drums or the low notes of a song just as well as the thunderous explosion of bombs.
The woofer is magnetically shielded, which means you can place other electronic devices near it without fear of damage or data loss. The cabinet is made of MDF (medium density fiberboard) with a black finish. It is fairly large so be sure there is enough for it.
There are inputs for speaker level 5 way binding posts, filtered line level (LL) and unfiltered low frequency effects (LFE). The frequency range for the PSW505 is 23-160 Hz. The Auto on/off feature is quite handy because the woofer will turn on when it senses a signal and off if there is no signal for 15 minutes.
Polk Audio PSW505 Pros
The PSW505 is a well built sub that produces great sound quality at a low price. The sound that this things puts out is pretty amazing. In fact one of the complaints I see frequently is that the subwoofer is just too loud. One reviewer compared the quality of the sound to that of a $1000 dollar Velodyne. The bass is extremely clear and loud enough to rattle a house.
Polk Audio PSW505 Cons
There are only a few downsides to this PSW505. A few people have reported receiving a dud or malfunctioning subwoofer, but Polk Audio’s 3 year warranty on the amp and 5 year warranty on the speaker allowed them to get a replacement without hassle.
Another downside is the fact that the thing is probably too loud if you live in an apartment or small space, especially if you don’t want angry neighbors.
